Summer is here!!
School is out and the sunshine is calling you and your family to get outside 😎
Time for a break from learning, right?
NOPE.
Ok… so it is absolutely important to take time to get outside and play, but it may surprise you to know that this is actually a prime opportunity for learning.
Outdoor play, for example running, dancing, climbing and rolling actually promotes healthy motor development
Group play, such as team sports promote cooperation and other social skills
Imaginative play, including story telling and art give a medium for self-expression, emotion regulation, and creative problem solving
Here are some tips for building in learning opportunities this summer:
1. Schedule technology free time to read with your child
2. Play family games that teach life skills such as Scrabble or Monopoly
3. Let your children help you as you plan and care for the family garden or participate in meal preparation
4. Go for a hike together and look up various plants and animals you find outdoors
5. Encourage family values through volunteer work
